〈援手〉作品的扮裝和單一重複動作的選取邏輯指向了電影《蜜桃成熟時33D》在2011年拍攝期間,日本AV男優加藤鷹與女優吉澤明步在香港中環的一段強暴戲橋段。由於加藤鷹造型妖異宛如變裝皇后卻身穿香港基層警察的制服,引發網路輿論與撻伐,並被視為隱射2008年旺角警署探員梁禮仲強姦女報案人的社會事件。在此,當象徵著破除刻板性別認同的扮裝皇后形象與象徵著正義職位警察形象的並置,仍被大眾視為離經叛道、褻瀆的,雖說相關議論無非是那場強暴戲所引發的漣漪,可大多數的評價卻同時包含了對這種妖異的、性別模糊的裝扮感到不滿。
所以在製作這個錄像時,我處在一種必須自我抉擇的猶疑狀態──究竟要擬仿這個參照至香港社會事件的角色,將他放置施虐或者受虐的位置?又或者從社會現狀來看,這樣子的扮裝形象,在這個社會的權力結構中,其背後指向的現實生存狀態,永遠都處在非雙向的臣服,甚至只是受迫害的位置。
The idea for outfit and the posture in “Give Me a Hand” comes from a movie from 2011, “The 33D Invaders.” In the movie, Japanese male AV star Katou Taka and female AV star Yoshizawa Akiho acted in a rape scene in Hong Kong central. Because Katou Taka’s was dressed in a uniform of a basic unit Hong Kong police officer’s outfit but with a very strange and exaggerated transgendered make up that looked like a drag queen. It was hated among the internet. It insulated a social event that occurred in 2008 where a Mongkok police officer raped a female that was only summiting a case. At that moment, when a drag queen outfit that represented the breakthrough of gender stereotype and a police officer’s uniform that is a symbol of a justice figure was put together side by side. It was thought to be unorthodox, even desecrating. Even though most of the related discussions are mostly about the ripple caused by the rape scene. But still, a lot of the comments on the movie still contains their disapproval of the transgendered and gender confusing outfit.
So when I was working on this recording, I was in a hesitating state, I had to make a choice. Do I do the same and imitate the characters of the social event that occurred in Hong Kong? Placing it the position along with sadism and masochism? Or do I look at it through a current society point of view. The image that comes along with this costume, under the authority structure of the society and referring to the survival state of the current reality. Always unmutual, and maybe even persecuted.
